Gamecube and Classic controllers banned in US

Anascape, a texas based company, sued Nintendo for violating a patent of Anascape's controllers. Nintendo lost the lawsuit. Instead of paying the $21 Million bond, Nintendo has decided to take all the controllers off the shelves.

This isn't the first time Nintendo has been sued, but none have ended like this. As of July 23rd, no more Gamecube or Wii Classic controllers will be sold in the US.... bummer.

How will we play oldschool wii shop titles now?

What the heck are you talking about?!?!?!? I just went onto amazon.com, bestbuy.com, and circuitcity.com, and they all had these in stock and Best Buy AND Circuit City had them available for in-store pickup. So, I don't know if that article means until they run out of stock or if this is fake.

This is fake. Go do yourself and get a life.

Wtf? Why does Anascape decide to sue Nintendo like 10 years after the controller originally came out?

I think this might be a lie. Have you seen this anywhere else?

Anyway, I suppose we could make our own. Anyone reversed engineered a GC controller yet?

That's a pretty serious response.

Perhaps Nintendo have worked out that withdrawing the current controllers from the market and releasing subtly different ones which don't infringe on Anascape's patents will be cheaper than the $21 million bond?

That's ridiculous! Now we have no choice but to stick with third-party retailers... and few of them suck!

Funny how it's September 30th and I just bought a Wii Classic controller from Wal-Mart today. I think your news is a hoax. That's just me though.

This isn't real. Anascape DID not sue Nintendo...but Nintendo AND Microsoft. I read a post about how Anascape scammed both of em, an you will notice that there are about 8-12 violations...HOWEVER, some of those "violations" aren't even legible...in fact, some of the violations are just a copy of the one before, but with a different name.
Here's a post of a very smart guy who did some research and is defending the two companies:

I just read another, the person who said the controllers are Banned ARE NOT BANNED. When nintendo was sued, they already had a plan to hold whatever "bans" they were going to get, hence the Classic controllers in Wal-mart :)

One more thing, Nintendo already tried to start a new trial but they were rejected...:(

Also, the only reasoon why Anascape sued nintendo is because they wanted to "enter the market" and said Nintendo and Microsoft were hogging everything. Thats very screwed up.

So right now, as far as I know at this moment, Nintendo and anascape are going neutral, and don't plan to do anything ....yet.

Who knows if this is true or not. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The second post said that this was fake. Why are people still acting as if it isn't?

Not fake. Anascape did sue and Nintendo was ordered not to sell it's classic controller - but, they have exercised their right to continue selling the classic pending a verdict at the U.S. Court of Appeals.

That suxs. I thought it was just a rumor, but there are REALLY NO classic controllers or gamecube controllers for the wii on the shelves of Fry's, Best buy, or Walmart now..

Anyone who wishes to buy any, might search craigslist or ebay. Ebay has a alot of generic ones for the wii, that aren't EXACTLY perfect like the brands are, but they still work. I'd suggest if you buy a generic one (the one without the Wii logo in the center of the classic controllers) to buy it from someone in the US (or a person in your own country).
